Perigee Haiku

From the porch, a moon
so commanding, my thoughts are
humbled by orange.

Such quiet beauty
in great bodies circling each
other for so long.

Astronomers and
lovers, making names for the
sweet unnamable.

I believe it’s true
that certain bodies
are simply drawn

to one another –
just look at the miracle
of the moon

and earth,
locked in orbit,
and the moon

showing the same face
night after
night for billions

of years.  Oh,
what it would be
to bare

your face like that
and never
look away.
