October Four Haiku

One or two geese trail
far behind, in the distance,
a black triangle.

The first fire burns to
embers as we light candles
in the other room.

All is quiet, save
the popping of jar lids on
the kitchen counter.

The chill dissipates
at last when, at night, our bones
lie close together.
