Fall In

‘Peaking’
is not word enough
for these leaves,

for the reds and golds
that wrap around
our human cells

to oil the cogs
where all things hum.
These colors land

on fire and singing
in the place
where love begins,

with just enough green
to remind us
that we are alive –

to bear our hearts
like scrub oak flames
and aspen

sparks
on this hillside fire
of lovers.
